Welcome to Twice Told Tales
Opened in January 2026, we are Fife’s only second-hand bookshop and café, a place to browse, to sit and read or chat.
Situated on Dunfermline High Street, just round the corner from the historic Abbey, we stock thousands of second-hand books, from popular paperbacks to rare and antiquarian.
Our café serves delicious fairtrade coffee and tea, cold drinks and traybakes.
We also stock a range of new books and crafts from local authors and makers, and a selection of fairtrade goods.
We have a dedicated children’s area including a space to draw and colour.
We are dog-friendly.
We also have a train set that sometimes works, a book-hoarding dragon named Gertrude, and a possibly haunted clock.

Who we are
Twice Told Tales was founded by Thomas and Marie Baldwin. We have lived in Dunfermline for nearly 20 years and have three grown-up children.
You may also meet the aforementioned children, particularly Demetri, who is our resident artist and painted the mural of Gertrude. We have a selection of his painted rocks, bracelets and badges for sale.
